
Dr. Shamlan Al-Qinai is a Specialist surgeon specializing in upper gastrointestinal surgery, gastrointestinal cancer, and complex abdominal wall reconstruction. He completed his general surgery training in Kuwait before pursuing a fellowship in Upper GI Surgery, Surgical endoscopy, acute care/trauma surgery at McGill University in Canada, where he gained extensive experience in both abdominal wall reconstruction (simple and complex hernias) and minimally invasive surgery of both benign and oncologic procedures of the esophagus and stomach.
Dr. Al-Qinai clinical expertise includes the surgical management of gastroesophageal reflux disease, hiatal and paraesophageal hernias, oncological procedures of the upper gi tract, laparoscopic and robotic surgery. He also performs complex ventral hernia repairs, including abdominal wall reconstruction. As well as emergency/elective general surgery procedures.
He is currently the head of the Acute Care Surgery & Trauma Unit at Jaber Al Ahmad hospital
In addition to his surgical practice, Dr. Al-Qinai is actively involved in surgical education and protocol development for acute care and cancer surgery services. He is passionate about multidisciplinary cancer care, surgical innovation, and improving patient outcomes through evidence-based practice.
