Dr. Ayoub Dakson is a neurosurgeon currently practicing at the Department of Neurosurgery, Kuwait Hospital, with expertise in complex spine surgery and minimally invasive spine surgery. He previously served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Kuwait University, where he was involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and clinical training.
He obtained a Bachelor of Medical Science with First-Class Honors from the University of St. Andrews, followed by his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from the University of Manchester in 2011. He also completed a Master’s degree in Research (MRes) in Neurodegeneration at the University of Manchester.
Dr. Dakson completed his neurosurgery residency (FRCSC) at Dalhousie University, Canada (2012–2018), followed by a combined fellowship in Complex Spine Surgery involving the Divisions of Neurosurgery and Orthopedics at Dalhousie University.
His clinical appointments in Kuwait have included Ibn Sina Hospital, Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital, Kuwait Hospital and other private hospitals. From November 2022 to October 2023, he served as Head of the Neurosurgery Unit at Jaber Al-Ahmad Hospital, Ministry of Health, where he contributed to the establishment and expansion of neurosurgery and spine surgery services. During this period, he also served as Program Director of the Neurosurgery Residency Program at the Kuwait Institute of Medical Specializations.
Across his Canadian training and consultant practice in Kuwait, Dr. Dakson has performed over 2,000 spine procedures, with an overall complication rate of approximately 2%, predominantly limited to cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks, and no procedure-related mortality or permanent neurological deficit.
In addition to his spine practice, Dr. Dakson has a clinical interest in the management of intracranial meningiomas and other brain tumors. He has experience in image-guided craniotomy and tumor resection, and is actively involved in multidisciplinary team (MDT) care, collaborating with neuroradiology, medical oncology, radiation oncology, and neurology to support comprehensive treatment planning.
In the management of spinal conditions, including degenerative disc disease, spinal tumors, and spinal fractures; Dr. Dakson adopts a holistic, multidisciplinary approach. He works closely with allied health services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology, psychiatry, pain management, and neuro-rehabilitation, recognizing that optimal outcomes often depend on coordinated non-surgical and surgical care rather than surgery alone.
His clinical practice encompasses degenerative, traumatic, and oncological spinal disorders, as well as selected cranial neurosurgical conditions. Dr. Dakson emphasizes careful patient selection, evidence-based decision- making, and the use of minimally invasive techniques when appropriate, with a strong focus on safety, neurological preservation, functional recovery, and long-term quality of life.
